National Margarita Day without the Sugar
by: Carly Curtis
Who doesn’t love a good margarita?!
Did you know that the margarita is one of the most popular tequila cocktails, which makes Margarita Day a super fun holiday to celebrate! But, if you are someone who tries to avoid lots of added sugar, throwing back a margarita or two at a siesta can make for quite the headache, literally. Lucky for you, you’ve stumbled onto a post with some healthier, but equally tasty swap ideas.
If you want to still take part in Margarita Day, but leave behind the super sugary sour mixes, I’ve got you. I love to craft up my own Volley Margarita with some homemade salsa, and it’s always been a hit with friends. Just grab your favorite Volley flavor (mine is grapefruit), glasses and a plate with course-ground salt. I get the rim of the glasses wet, put them rim side down in the salt. Next, pour your bubbly Volley over ice. You can drink it just like that, or for a little extra toss in some lime wedges, sliced strawberries, or my personal favorite, jalapeno slices.
Trust me, this drink is sure to impress- especially when you let your friends know that this drink is just premium 100% agave tequila, sparkling water and organic juices. Margarita vibes sans headaches.
We all know chips and salsa are the perfect pairing for a nice, cold margarita. I love to toss 3 big tomatoes, half an onion, some garlic, jalapenos, salt and pepper into a vitamix, blend for a bit. Or if you'd rather snag a jar from the store, go for it!
